Danube Road Randonneur – Regulations

REGULATIONS OF THE ULTRA BREVET

„THE DANUBE ROAD RANDONNEUR (2026 - 3-RD EDITION)

Art. 1 (Introduction)

The Association Adevaratii VeloPrieteni Romania and the organization Randonneurs Romania are organizing, from 15 to 19 August 2026, the 3rd edition of the BRM1200+ ultra-brevet, Drumul Dunarii Randonneur 2026 (DDR 2026), which shall be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the BRM Regulations (http://www.randonneurs.ro/regulament-brm), supplemented by the provisions of these Regulations.

Art. 2 (Participation conditions)

DDR 2026 is an event open to permanent members of the Randonneurs Romania Cycling Club, as well as to other endurance cyclists from Romania and abroad who, by paying the participation fee, become temporary members of the club for the duration of the ultra-brevet.

On the day of the start, participants must be at least 18 years old. In accordance with the Romanian Road Traffic Code, minors may not participate in this event.

In order to participate, cyclists must meet at least one of the following conditions:

  • (a) they obtained a Super Randonneur title (BRM 200, 300, 400 and 600) in any season during 2023–2025;
  • (b) they obtained homologation certification for a BRM 1000 km or a BRM 1200+ km during 2023–2025;
  • (c) they obtained homologation certification for DDR in the 2018 or 2022 editions;
  • (d) they obtained homologation certification for a BRM 600 km in 2026.

An exemption from meeting the four conditions above may be granted depending on the participant’s endurance-cycling history over the last 10 years, namely during the 2016–2025 seasons.

Art. 3 (Participation limit)

Because of the organizational conditions of the event, the number of participants is limited to 100 places.

Art. 4 (Registration)

Registration takes place from 5 April to 15 June 2026 via the form available on the website. The form must include the homologation certificate numbers for the brevets required for qualification, and the participation fee must be paid into the account specified in the form.

A place is definitively reserved only after full payment of the participation fee and confirmation thereof no later than 16 June 2026.

After this date, all places not confirmed by payment of the participation fee will be cancelled, and the respective cyclists will be deemed not to be taking the start. Any amount paid will be refunded, less 20%.

During 17–21 June 2026, registrations will be processed (all brevets mentioned in the forms will be verified in the national and international databases), after which, during 22–30 June 2026, the final list of participants who meet the conditions will be published. If there are any uncertainties, they will be resolved individually with each of those participants. Thereafter, no later than 31 July 2026, participants will receive an email with the instructions and documentation necessary for attendance at the event.

If participants do not receive this email by 1 August 2026, they must send a notice to: brm1200ddr@adevaratiiveloprieteni.ro

Art. 5 (Participation fee)

Payment of the deposit, or of the full participation fee, may be made individually or collectively for several persons, by bank transfer to the account of the Adevaratii VeloPrieteni Association: IBAN: RO02 RNCB 0085 1536 8704 0001 (RON) or IBAN: RO45 RNCB 0085 1536 8704 0003 / SWIFT: RNCBROBU (EUR), BCR Bucharest, specifying the persons for whom the payment is being made. The deposit for reserving a place is 150 RON / 30 EUR, non-refundable, and is deducted from the total participation fee.

The registration fee is 750 RON / 150 EUR, from which the deposit is deducted if it has been paid.

Active members of the Randonneurs Romania Cycling Club benefit from a 10% discount, the registration fee therefore being 675 RON / 135 EUR, from which the deposit is deducted if it has been paid.

The registration fee includes:

  • (a) registration processing for the validation of participation in DDR 2026;
  • (b) actual participation in DDR 2026;
  • (c) the official personalized DDR 2026 reflective vest;
  • (d) a snack (sandwich, coffee) at the start and a “pasta party” at the finish;
  • (e) the documentation required for participation in DDR 2026;
  • (f) frame badge and participation number;
  • (g) brevet card;
  • (h) route sheet;
  • (i) registration in the BrevetCard application and its use for monitoring passage through checkpoints;
  • (j) round-trip transport of two bags (max. 5 kg / bag) to 2 checkpoints on the route (these 2 checkpoints will be active in both directions of travel);
  • (k) free access to checkpoints equipped with rest-shower-hydration-energy services;
  • (l) support for emergency situations at some checkpoints;
  • (m) parking of personal cars at the start-finish checkpoint throughout the duration of the event;
  • (n) finisher medal;
  • (o) participation diploma in electronic and printed format;
  • (p) homologation of the result by Les Randonneurs Mondiaux;
  • (q) brevet medal (for those homologated);
  • (r) brevet certificate in electronic format (for those homologated);
  • (s) personalized DDR 2026 water bottle.

Costs related to hydration / energy supply / accommodation (other than those provided at checkpoints, which are 100% included in the participation fee) or to returning to the start in the event of abandonment are the responsibility of the participants.

Art. 6 (Cancellation / withdrawal)

The registration fee shall be refunded under the following conditions:

  • (a) in case of withdrawal during the registration period, but no later than 1 June 2026, 80% of the fee shall be refunded;
  • (b) in case of withdrawal during the registration period of 1–15 June 2026, 50% of the fee shall be refunded;
  • (c) after the close of registration, any withdrawal may take place only by transferring the fee to another participant who meets the qualification criteria and has not managed to obtain a place. It will no longer be possible to refund any part of the fee, given that, from 16 June 2026, the procurement of goods and services for the conduct of the event begins.

Any failure to meet the qualification criteria does not constitute grounds for refunding the participation fee (in order to avoid such situations, if there are any uncertainties as to whether the conditions are met, we recommend that participants contact the organizer before registering). However, in such cases, if the participant ordered the event’s personalized jersey, it will be delivered to them (upon payment of the delivery service), and the same will apply to all those who, for whatever reason, do not present themselves at the start.

After the end of the registration period, if the event is cancelled due to circumstances beyond the organizer’s control, a fixed amount of 350 RON / 70 EUR will be refunded. No other compensation will be paid.

Art. 7 (Rules regarding the bicycle used)

Any two- or three-wheeled bicycle may be used, propelled only by human power through a transmission consisting of one or more chains. The bicycle must not exceed 1 meter in width. Bicycles that do not meet these conditions must obtain the organizer’s approval in order to be used in this brevet. On bicycles with road handlebars, aerobars — forearm-rest extensions — are accepted provided that they do not extend beyond the outermost point of the gear-shift levers.

Electrically assisted vehicles are prohibited.

Bicycles must be equipped with a functional lighting system, sufficiently powerful so that, during the night, the bicycle is visible from a distance of at least 100 meters from the front and at least 150 meters from the rear. The lighting system must be present on the bicycle at all times of day and must function properly. The use of rear lights in FLASH mode is prohibited; that light must operate in CONTINUOUS mode so as not to disturb other participants. At the same time, the existence of a backup lighting system is recommended.

Lights MUST be turned on throughout the night or in conditions of reduced visibility, regardless of whether the participant is riding alone or in a group.

If the organizer finds that a cyclist is riding without lights or with an inadequate lighting system, they will not be allowed to continue unless they solve the lighting-system problem, and if that person has an emergency lighting system, they will be allowed to proceed to the next checkpoint, where they must resolve the problem.

In order to test both the bicycle and its equipment, participants are recommended to use a bicycle equipped in this way in at least one 400 km or 600 km endurance brevet before using it in the DDR 2026 ultra-brevet.

In order to be checked more easily, all participants MUST keep the frame badge with the participation number visibly displayed on the bicycle for the entire duration of the event.

Art. 8 (Participant equipment)

In accordance with the Romanian Road Traffic Code, cyclists MUST wear a reflective vest at night or in conditions of reduced visibility. If, for various reasons (e.g., a backpack worn on the back), the vest is covered, the cyclist must have other reflective elements visible.

Wearing light-colored clothing at night is recommended.

Participants MUST wear a protective helmet at all times while on the route.

It is recommended to wear cycling jerseys dedicated to the DDR 2026 ultra-brevet or other cycling jerseys related to endurance cycling.

Art. 9 (Route and checkpoints)

The final official route will be sent by email to all participants. The announced route may undergo minor changes, but these will be communicated to all participants by the organizer in due time. Near checkpoints organized by the organizer or its partners there will be markings directing participants to them, except for checkpoints organized at petrol stations or those evidenced by the taking of photographs. Participation in DDR 2026 will be monitored through the BrevetCard application, and registered cyclists will receive the details necessary for its installation and use. At the same time, the BrevetCard application will also constitute the basic method for passing through the checkpoints established by the organizer.

The checkpoints are organized as follows:

There may also be a SECRET checkpoint on the route, but if one is organized, this will be announced at the start.

The organizer reserves the right to modify the checkpoints, but must notify all participants in advance.

Participants MUST follow ONLY the official route, and in the event of any deviation from the route, in order not to risk disqualification, those concerned MUST re-enter the route at the point where they left it, without using shortcuts.

It is recommended that participants’ support cars follow a route other than the official route to be ridden by the cyclists, with support being accepted only in the area of the checkpoints, at a maximum distance of 10 km from them; otherwise the cyclist concerned risks penalty / disqualification.

Art. 10 (Responsibilities and insurance)

Participants in the event MUST comply with all provisions of the Romanian Road Traffic Code.

Upon registration, cyclists must declare on their own responsibility that they have life insurance and, in the event of incidents / accidents, they fully assume all consequences thereof.

At all places along the route, participants must take care of their equipment, bicycle, and luggage, the organizer not being responsible in the event of loss or theft thereof.

Art. 11 (The brevet card)

A brevet card will be provided at the start to each participant, and they must keep it on their person for the entire duration of the event. Each cyclist must ensure that the brevet card is validated (stamped / signed / with the time and date entered) at every checkpoint, including the SECRET one, if applicable. Loss of the brevet card, the absence of a validation, or incomplete validation at an official or secret checkpoint results in the participant’s disqualification. Likewise, each cyclist must take the photographs at the checkpoints where passage through them is evidenced by such a method.

Art. 12 (Preparation for the START)

In order to receive the right to take the start in the brevet, each registered participant shall present themselves on 15 August 2026, starting at 06:00, at the “Camp Nou” Stadium in Videle (participants will receive the exact location of the stadium) in order to complete the registration procedure. For this purpose, several zones will be organized, and each participant must proceed through them in the following order:

(I) Bicycle and equipment inspection area

After the participant presents an identity document (identity card / passport), a representative of the organizer will inspect their bicycle and equipment. If there are problems that can be remedied, the participant may return to the inspection area only after remedying them; otherwise, they may not take the start. After the inspection, with the inspection sheet signed and stamped by the organizer’s representative, the cyclist proceeds to the next area.

(II) Participation kit handover area

The participant hands over the inspection sheet and the completed declaration of participation on their own responsibility, and a representative of the organizer provides them with the participation kit: the brevet card, the numbered frame badge, the route sheet, the personalized water bottle, the personalized reflective vest, etc.

The cyclist signs the start sheet. The brevet card will be stamped with 09:00 as the start time.

(III) Personalized cycling jersey handover area (optional, for those who ordered it at extra cost – 200 RON / 40 EUR)

The participant presents the brevet card to a representative of the organizer, who will provide the ordered jersey, and the cyclist signs for receipt thereof.

(IV) Support car declaration area (optional for those arriving with a support car) or declaration of cars that will be parked at the stadium for the entire duration of the event

Participants will provide the organizer’s representative with the details of the vehicles concerned and, in the case of support vehicles, those of the driver.

They will receive a personalized frame badge, depending on whether the car will be a support vehicle or will remain parked at the stadium, and throughout the duration of the event this MUST be placed on the windshield of the vehicle. Any support car that does not comply with the rules laid down by the organizer regarding the help provided to the participant shall result in the removal of the car from the route and the penalty / disqualification of the cyclist involved.

Both the participant and the driver of the support car must be present in this area to collect the frame badge and to sign in acknowledgment of the provisions regarding support.

(V) Luggage drop-off area

Participants shall hand over the bags that are to be transported to the checkpoints announced by the organizer. The cyclist signs for the handover of the luggage, and the organizer’s representative signs for its receipt.

(VI) Waiting-hydration-energy area

After completing the activities in areas I–V, cyclists shall go to the waiting area, where hydration and energy supply are available.

(VII) Technical briefing area

At 08:30, the technical briefing takes place, at which all participants MUST be present, and at the end of the briefing they shall sign to acknowledge what has been presented.

After the briefing, cyclists ride their bicycles to the start area (Videle Town Hall), located approximately 800 meters from the stadium.

(VIII) Start area

The official start will be given at 09:00 from Videle Town Hall. From that moment, the 108h35min time limit for completing the brevet route is calculated, regardless of the time at which the cyclist actually sets off on the route. Failure to validate the brevet card at the start checkpoint results in the participant’s disqualification and the non-homologation of the result. For security reasons, an organizer’s car will leave in front of the peloton and MUST NOT be overtaken by participants until km 10 (Mosteni), where the technical start will effectively take place. Failure to comply with this rule results in penalties for the participants concerned.

Art. 13 (Opening and closing of checkpoints)

The opening and closing times of the checkpoints MUST be respected, except for those organized at petrol stations or those requiring photographs to be taken. Checkpoints organized with rest, hydration, and energy supply will be closed outside the periods mentioned on the brevet card. However, participants have available to them the possibility of recording their passage through these checkpoints with the help of the BrevetCard electronic application.

In the event of special situations (incidents, traffic jams, etc.), participants may report a delay beyond the closing time of an organized checkpoint, but they must make up the delay within at most the next two checkpoints of this category. In the special situations mentioned above, if there are more than three organized checkpoints at which the participant arrives after closing, that participant will be disqualified.

Art. 14 (Homologation, disqualification)

If the route is completed in less than 43h43min, the result will not be homologated (this time corresponds to an average speed, including breaks, of 30 km/h).

All participants who finish the brevet in at least 43h43min and at most 108h35min, after validation of passage through all checkpoints, will receive the brevet certificate and the corresponding medal, included in the participation fee. The certificate and medal are provided by Les Randonneurs Mondiaux.

At the end, for participants penalized with time on the route, that time will be added to the recorded time, and thereafter a decision will be made on validation of the result. All participants who complete the entire route, regardless of time, will receive the finisher medal and the participation diploma.

Cyclists who abandon must present the brevet card to the volunteers at a checkpoint or to a representative of the organizer in order for ABANDONMENT to be noted on it. After abandonment, the participant must remove the frame badge from the bicycle and the monitoring device, but may keep them as a souvenir together with the brevet card.

Art. 15 (Support car)

Participants who wish to benefit from a support car (only in the area of the checkpoints) MUST register / declare it at the start.

Support cars of participants are prohibited from providing assistance / support to them on the route, except in areas near the checkpoints (within a radius of at most 10 km around the checkpoint). In order to remove any suspicion that may lead to the disqualification of the participants involved and the removal from the route of the respective support cars, it is recommended that they use, as far as possible, an alternative route to reach the checkpoints, different from the official route of the DDR 2026 ultra-brevet. The organizer may suggest / recommend the alternative route (where this is possible) that support cars may use.

Art. 16 (Penalties, disqualifications and appeals)

The organizer (Randonneurs Romania and Adevaratii VeloPrieteni Romania) reserves the right to refuse a person’s participation in the DDR 2026 ultra-brevet and to disqualify, without any compensation, any participant who flagrantly breaches the Regulations governing the conduct of brevets and the provisions of these event Regulations. The organizer’s representatives will wear signs (badges) or distinctive clothing to enable their identification in the area of the checkpoints and the organized areas at the start and finish.

(I) Penalties

Any breach of the rules by participants reported by the organizer’s representatives shall be penalized with time, as follows:

  • (a) overtaking the organizer’s official vehicle at the start of the event: 1h;
  • (b) absence of lights or improper functioning of the lights (including the use of FLASH rather than CONTINUOUS mode) at night or in conditions of reduced visibility: 1h;
  • (c) breach of the rules regarding the circulation of cyclists on public roads as provided in the Romanian Road Traffic Code: 1h;
  • (d) providing a slipstream to a participant by a cyclist who is not participating in the event: 1h;
  • (e) not wearing a protective helmet while riding: 1h;
  • (f) polluting the environment in any form: 2h;
  • (g) absence of the reflective vest or wearing it in such a way that it is not visible at night or in conditions of reduced visibility: 2h;
  • (h) refusal to comply with a request by an organizer’s representative to remedy a reported problem: 2h;
  • (i) presence of a support car on the official route, although there is an alternative route in that area and it was specified at the start for use: 2h;
  • (j) assistance provided to a participant by the support car on the official route outside the areas near checkpoints: 3h;
  • (k) provision of support on the official route or even in the checkpoint areas by a person / vehicle that was not declared at the start: 5h;
  • (l) improper or violent behavior toward the organizer’s representatives by the cyclist or members of the support car: 5h;

If a rule is breached more than once, the penalties are cumulative.

As far as possible, participants who have been penalized will be informed of this either immediately on the spot or at the next checkpoint. The penalties will be entered on the brevet card. They will be added at the end to the participant’s total time.

(II) Disqualifications

Situations in which a participant may be disqualified (decisions regarding disqualification are made by the members of the event organizing committee):

  • (a) handing the brevet card to another participant for validation without being physically present at that checkpoint;
  • (b) using “shortcuts” on the route or any means of transport other than one’s own bicycle to travel along the route;
  • (c) violent attack against other participants in the event, traffic, or any other persons during the event;
  • (d) if the cumulative time penalties amount to at least 10h or after receiving at least 5 penalties, even if their total does not exceed 10h.

Depending on the seriousness of the act that led to the disqualification, the organizer shall notify the other organizing entities worldwide with a view to prohibiting the participation of the person concerned in endurance-cycling events.

(III) Appeals

Any appeal regarding penalties or disqualification may be made by email (to brm1200@adevaratiiveloprieteni.ro) or in writing to the address of the organizer’s registered office, within a maximum of 5 days from the end of the event.

Art. 17 (Respect for the environment)

All participants MUST respect environmental protection both at the checkpoints and along the entire DDR 2026 route. Moreover, it must be borne in mind that several areas declared protected natural reserves will be crossed along the route. In the event of non-compliance with environmental protection, each participant is responsible for their own actions. Throwing litter along the DDR 2026 route is PROHIBITED. Endurance cyclists must prove that they are citizens who pollute the environment as little as possible.

Art. 18 (Image rights)

By participating in the DDR 2026 ultra-brevet, participants agree to the use of their static or moving image by the organizer’s representatives and by its partners in organizing the event, in promotional and advertising materials, throughout the world, for an indefinite period.

In accordance with the existing legal provisions in the field of personal data protection, each participant may access or rectify their personal information; otherwise, they must make it known that they do not agree.

Art. 19 (Declaration of assumption of responsibility)

Participation in the DDR 2026 ultra-brevet is conditional upon signing, at the time of presenting at the start, a Declaration of Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability made available by the organizer.

By signing this declaration, the registered cyclist:

  • (a) confirms that they participate voluntarily and at their own risk;
  • (b) declares that they are medically and mentally fit for endurance effort;
  • (c) acknowledges and accepts the risks inherent in cycling on public roads;
  • (d) undertakes to comply with the applicable road-traffic legislation and the organizer’s instructions;
  • (e) releases the organizers, volunteers, partners, and sponsors from any liability for accidents, injuries, illnesses, losses, or damages, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Refusal to sign the Declaration of Assumption of Risk or the impossibility of signing it results in prohibition from taking the start, without any right to a refund of the participation fee.

The Declaration of Assumption of Risk is drafted in Romanian and English and is signed by hand by each participant.

Art. 20 (Update)

The organizer reserves the right to modify these Regulations or to decide to introduce new rules if necessary. The organizer may modify the conditions under which the event is held.

As soon as possible, the organizer will bring to the attention of participants any amendment or decision adopted that would affect the conduct of the event, through the press, radio, and the internet, at least 3 days before the date of the event. Likewise, at the venue of the event, the changes will be announced publicly (orally or by notices).
