Ultra-Distance Endurance Cycling Brevets
Brevet events in the BRM 1200+ category, also known as ultra brevets, represent the major challenges of endurance cycling. Historically, these events marked the emergence of the sport itself, long before shorter brevet distances were standardized and organized in their modern form.
The history of these events begins with Paris-Brest-Paris, first organized in 1891 and still regarded today as the world’s most prestigious endurance cycling event.
Presentation
The BRM 1200+ category brings together the classic ultra-endurance brevets held over distances of at least 1200 km under the supervision of Les Randonneurs Mondiaux. These events require self-sufficiency, experience gained through traditional brevets, and the ability to manage effort over very long periods of time.
Over the years, several ultra brevets have become international landmarks and attract participants from all over the world, with most of them organized every four years. Since 2018, a series of BRM 1200+ events has also been developed in Romania under the coordination of Randonneurs Romania.
Results achieved in these events are homologated according to specific regulations, and participation in ultra brevets is considered one of the most important milestones in the career of a randonneur.
