Art. 1 (Introduction)
The Association Adevaratii VeloPrieteni Romania and the organization Randonneurs Romania organize, during the period July 4–19, 2026, the first edition of the BRM1200+ ultra-brevet, Ride Across Romania (RAR), which shall be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the BRM Regulations (http://www.randonneurs.ro/regulament-brm), supplemented by those of the present Regulations.
Art. 2 (Participation conditions)
RAR is an event open to permanent members of the Randonneurs Romania Cycling Club, as well as to other endurance cyclists from Romania and abroad, who, by paying the participation fee, become temporary members of the club for the duration of the ultra-brevet.
Participants must be at least 18 years old on the day of the start. In accordance with the provisions of the Romanian Road Code, minors may not participate in this event.
In order to participate, cyclists must fulfill at least one of the following conditions:
(a) they have obtained a brevet certificate for at least 5 BRMs of any distance during the period 2025–2026;
(b) they have obtained a brevet certificate for a BRM 1000 km or a BRM 1200+ km during the period 2023–2025;
(c) they have obtained a brevet certificate for a Super Randonnee (600 km with a minimum of 10,000 meters of elevation gain), starting from 2017;
(d) they have obtained a brevet certificate for a BRM 600 km with a minimum of 8,000 meters, starting from 2023.
An exemption from fulfilling the above 4 conditions may be granted, depending on the participant’s history in endurance cycling over the last 10 years, namely during the 2016–2025 seasons.
Art. 3 (Participation limit)
There is no limit on the number of places.
Art. 4 (Registration)
Registration shall take place during the period April 15 – May 31, 2026, via the form on the website, in which the homologation certificate numbers of the brevets required for qualification shall be stated, and payment of the participation fee shall be made to the account mentioned in the form.
A place is definitively reserved only after the participation fee has been paid in full and such payment has been confirmed no later than June 1, 2026.
After this date, all places not confirmed by payment of the participation fee shall be cancelled, and it shall be considered that the respective cyclists will not take the start, any part of the fee already paid being returned to them, less 20%.
During the period June 2–5, 2026, registrations shall be processed (all brevets mentioned in the forms shall be verified in the national and international databases), after which, during the period June 5–10, 2026, the final list of participants who meet the conditions shall be published. Should there be any uncertainties, these shall be resolved individually with each of those participants. Subsequently, no later than June 25, 2026, participants shall receive an email with the instructions and documentation necessary for attending the event.
If by June 26, 2026, participants do not receive this email, they must send a notification to the following address: brm1200ddr@adevaratiiveloprieteni.ro
Art. 5 (Participation fee)
Payment of the participation fee may be made individually or collectively for several persons, by bank transfer to the account of the Association Adevaratii VeloPrieteni: IBAN: RO02 RNCB 0085 1536 8704 0001 (RON) or IBAN: RO45 RNCB 0085 1536 8704 0003 / SWIFT: RNCBROBU (EUR), BCR Bucharest, mentioning the persons for whom the payment is made. The registration fee is 150 RON / 30 EURO. Active members of the Randonneurs Romania Cycling Club benefit from a discount, the registration fee being 125 RON / 25 EURO. Optionally, after homologation of the result, the medal corresponding to a BRM1200+ may be purchased (40 RON / 8 EURO).
The registration fee includes:
(a) processing of the registration for the purpose of validating participation in RAR;
(b) actual participation in RAR;
(c) snack (sandwich, coffee) at the start and at the finish (for the start organized at Valea Lunga);
(d) the documentation necessary for participation in RAR;
(e) electronic brevet card;
(f) route sheet in electronic format;
(g) registration in the BrevetCard application and its use for monitoring passage through the checkpoints;
(h) parking of personal cars at the checkpoint at the start-finish point (for the start organized at Valea Lunga) for the entire duration of the event;
(i) homologation of the result by Les Randonneurs Mondiaux;
(j) the brevet certificate in electronic format (for those homologated).
The costs related to hydration / nutrition / accommodation on the route or returning to the start in the event of withdrawal are the responsibility of the participants.
Art. 6 (Cancellation / withdrawal)
The registration fee shall be refunded under the following conditions:
(a) in the event of withdrawal during the registration period, but no later than May 15, 2026, 75% of the fee shall be refunded;
(b) in the event of withdrawal during the registration period May 15–31, 2026, 50% of the fee shall be refunded;
(c) after the end of the registration period, any withdrawal may only be made by transferring the fee to another participant who meets the qualification criteria.
Any failure to meet the qualification criteria shall not constitute grounds for refunding the participation fee (in order to avoid such situations, if there are any uncertainties regarding fulfillment of the conditions, we recommend that participants contact the organizer before registering).
After the end of the registration period, should the event be cancelled due to circumstances beyond the organizer’s control, a fixed sum of 75 RON / 15 EURO shall be refunded. No other compensation shall be paid.
Art. 7 (Rules regarding the bicycle used)
Any bicycle with two or three wheels may be used, propelled only by human power through a transmission consisting of one or more chains. The bicycle must not exceed a width of 1 meter. Bicycles that do not meet these conditions must obtain the organizer’s approval in order to be used for this brevet. On bicycles with drop handlebars, aerobars – forearm rest extensions – are accepted provided that they do not extend beyond the outermost point of the brake/shift levers.
Electric-assist vehicles are prohibited.
Bicycles must be equipped with a functional lighting system, sufficiently powerful so that during the night the bicycle is visible from a distance of at least 100 meters from the front and at least 150 meters from the rear. The lighting system must be present on the bicycle at all times of day and must function properly. The use of rear lights in FLASH mode is prohibited; this light must operate in CONTINUOUS mode so as not to disturb other participants. At the same time, the existence of a backup lighting system is recommended.
The lights MUST be turned on throughout the night or in the event of reduced visibility, regardless of whether the participant is riding alone or in a group.
If the organizer finds that a cyclist is riding without lights or with an inadequate lighting system, they shall not be allowed to continue unless they resolve the problem with the lighting system; and if the respective cyclist has an emergency lighting system, they shall be allowed to ride only to the next checkpoint, where they must resolve the problem.
In order to test both their bicycle setup and the bicycle itself, participants are recommended to use a bicycle equipped in this way in at least one endurance brevet of 400 or 600 km before using it in the RAR ultra-brevet.
Art. 8 (Participant equipment)
In accordance with the Romanian Road Code, cyclists MUST wear a reflective vest during the night or in conditions of reduced visibility. In the event that, for various reasons (e.g. a backpack worn on the back), the vest is covered, the cyclist must have other reflective elements visible.
Wearing light-colored clothing during the night is recommended.
Participants MUST wear a protective helmet at all times on the route.
Wearing cycling jerseys dedicated to the practice of this sport is recommended.
Art. 9 (The route and checkpoints)
The final official route shall be sent by email to all participants. The announced route may undergo minor changes, however these shall be communicated in due time to all participants by the organizer. Near the checkpoints organized by the organizer or its partners there shall be markings to guide participants toward them, except for checkpoints organized at gas stations or which are evidenced by taking photographs. Participation in RAR shall be monitored through the BrevetCard application, and registered cyclists shall receive the details necessary for installing and using it. At the same time, the BrevetCard application shall also constitute the basic means of passing through the checkpoints established by the organizer.
The route includes 34 control points: START, 32 intermediate control points, and FINISH (those marked with “S” may be chosen as START/FINISH):

The organizer reserves the right to change the checkpoints, but must notify all participants in advance.
Participants MUST follow ONLY the official route, and, in the event of any deviation from the route, in order not to risk disqualification, those concerned MUST re-enter the route at the point where they left it, without resorting to shortcuts.
It is recommended that the participants’ support cars follow a route other than the official one which the cyclists will ride, support offered to them being accepted only in the checkpoint areas, within no more than 25 km of them, otherwise the penalty / disqualification of the respective cyclist may result.
Art. 10 (Responsibilities and insurance)
Participants in the event MUST comply with all provisions of the Romanian Road Code.
Upon registration, cyclists must declare on their own responsibility that they benefit from life insurance and, in the event of incidents / accidents, fully assume the consequences thereof.
At all places along the route, participants must take care of their equipment, bicycle, and luggage, the organizer not being responsible in case of their loss or theft.
Art. 11 (The brevet card)
In addition to the electronic BrevetCard application, for those who wish there shall also be printed documents, which shall either be provided at the start (for the start organized at Valea Lunga), or shall be sent by courier or printed by the participant. Thus, the printed brevet card must be kept by the participant throughout the duration of the event. Each cyclist must ensure that the brevet card is filled in with the data corresponding to each checkpoint. Loss of the brevet card or absence of data corresponding to certain checkpoints results in the participant’s disqualification. Likewise, each cyclist must take photographs at the checkpoints where proof of passage is established through such a method.
Art. 12 (Preparation for the START)
Regardless of the START locality chosen upon registration, each registered participant shall take the start on July 4, 2026, at 09:00. Those who will start from Valea Lunga must present themselves at the established location (the courtyard of the Radulescu Family) at 08:00 (participants shall receive the exact location), in order to complete the registration procedure. The start can also be taken, by selecting in the registration form, from one of the following 22 locations: Curtea de Argeș, Cisnădie, Obârșia Lotrului, Novaci, Sarmisegetuza, Gărâna, TransLuncani (km 943), Slatina de Mureș, Vârtop Resort, Geogel, Mihai Viteazu, Sărmășel, Bistrița, Prislop Pass, TransRarău (km 1687), Durău Resort, Miercurea Ciuc, Oituz, Zagon, Sărata Monteoru, Slănic Prahova, and Poiana Brașov (only in the direction of the homologated route, namely clockwise).
After the participant presents an identity document (identity card / passport), their bicycle and equipment shall be checked. If there are problems that can be remedied, the participant shall start only after remedying them. After the check, the participant shall complete the declaration of participation on their own responsibility and shall receive the participation kit according to the options chosen upon registration (brevet card, route sheet, etc.). The cyclist shall provide the organizer with the details of the support car (if applicable) and shall sign the start sheet. Any support car that does not comply with the rules laid down by the organizer regarding the assistance provided to the participant shall lead to the penalty / disqualification of the cyclist involved.
At 08:45, the technical briefing shall take place, at which all participants MUST be present. After the technical briefing, at 09:00, the cyclists shall start. From that moment, the 368h, the time limit for completing the brevet route, shall be counted, regardless of the time at which the cyclist actually departs on the route.
Art. 13 (Opening and closing of checkpoints)
The opening and closing times for the intermediate checkpoints are indicative.
Art. 14 (Homologation, disqualification)
If the time for completing the route is less than 95h52min, the result shall not be homologated (this time corresponds to an overall average speed, including breaks, of 28 km/h).
All participants who complete the brevet in at least 95h22min and at most 368h, after validation of passage through all checkpoints, shall obtain the brevet certificate and, optionally, the corresponding medal. The certificate and the medal are provided by Les Randonneurs Mondiaux.
At the end, for participants penalized with time on the route, this shall be added to the recorded time, and subsequently the decision to validate the result shall be made. Participants who complete the entire route but fail to finish within the time limit shall receive a participation diploma.
Cyclists who withdraw must notify the organizer and respectively mark this in the BrevetCard application, also mentioning the reason for their decision.
Art. 15 (Support vehicle)
Participants who wish to benefit from a support vehicle (only in the checkpoint areas) MUST declare this aspect in the registration form.
Participants’ support vehicles are prohibited from offering assistance / support on the route, except in the areas near the checkpoints (within a radius of no more than 25 km around the checkpoint). In order to remove any suspicions that may lead to the disqualification of the participants involved and to the removal of the respective support vehicles from the route, it is recommended that they use, as far as possible, an alternative route to reach the checkpoints, different from the official route of the RAR ultra-brevet. The organizer may suggest / recommend the alternative route (where this is possible) that support vehicles may use.
Art. 16 (Penalties, disqualifications and appeals)
The organizer (Randonneurs Romania and Adevaratii VeloPrieteni Romania) reserves the right to refuse a person’s participation in the RAR ultra-brevet and to disqualify, without any compensation, any participant who flagrantly violates the Regulations governing the conduct of brevets and the provisions of the present Regulations of this event.
(I) Penalties
Any violation of the rules by participants reported by representatives of the organizer shall be penalized with time, as follows:
(a) absence of lights or improper functioning thereof (including use of FLASH mode instead of CONTINUOUS mode) during the night or in conditions of reduced visibility: 1h;
(b) violation of the rules regarding the circulation of cyclists on public roads provided for in the Romanian Road Code: 1h;
(c) a participant being paced by a cyclist who is not participating in the event: 1h;
(d) not wearing a protective helmet while riding: 1h;
(e) polluting the environment in any form: 2h;
(f) absence of the reflective vest or wearing it in such a way that it is not visible during the night or in conditions of reduced visibility: 2h;
(g) refusal to comply with a request by a representative of the organizer to solve a reported problem: 2h;
(h) assistance given to a participant by the support vehicle on the official route outside the areas near the checkpoints: 3h;
(i) improper, violent behavior towards representatives of the organizer by the cyclist or the members of the support vehicle: 5h;
If a rule is violated several times, the penalties shall accumulate.
As far as possible, participants who have been penalized shall be informed of this. The penalty times shall be added at the end to the total time obtained by the participant.
(II) Disqualifications
Situations in which a participant may be disqualified (decisions regarding disqualification are taken by the members of the event organizing committee):
(a) the use of “shortcuts” on the route or of other means of transport, other than the participant’s personal bicycle, to travel along the route;
(b) violent attack against other participants in the event, traffic, or any other persons during the event;
(c) if the cumulative time penalties amount to at least 15h or after receiving at least 5 penalties, even if by cumulating them 15h is not exceeded.
Depending on the seriousness of the act that led to the disqualification, the organizer shall notify the other organizing entities worldwide in order to prohibit the respective person from participating in endurance cycling events.
(III) Appeals
Any appeal regarding penalties or disqualification may be made by email (to the address brm1200@adevaratiiveloprieteni.ro) or in writing, to the address of the organizer’s headquarters, within a maximum of 5 days from the end of the event.
Art. 17 (Respect for the environment)
All participants MUST respect environmental protection, both at the checkpoints and along the entire RAR route. Moreover, it must be taken into account that several areas declared protected natural reserves will be crossed along the route. In the event of failure to respect environmental protection, each participant shall be responsible for their own actions. It is PROHIBITED to throw litter along the RAR route. Endurance cyclists must prove that they are citizens who pollute the environment as little as possible.
Art. 18 (Image rights)
By participating in the RAR ultra-brevet, participants agree to the use of their static or moving image by the representatives of the organizer and by its partners involved in organizing the event, in promotional and advertising materials, throughout the world, for an indefinite period.
In accordance with the existing legal provisions in the field of personal data protection, each participant may access or rectify their personal information; otherwise, they must make it known that they do not agree.
Art. 19 (Declaration of assumption of liability)
Participation in the RAR ultra-brevet is conditional upon signing, at the time of presenting at the start, a Declaration of Assumption of Risk and Release from Liability, made available by the organizer.
By signing this declaration, the registered cyclist:
(a) confirms that they participate voluntarily and on their own responsibility;
(b) declares that they are medically and mentally fit for endurance effort;
(c) acknowledges and accepts the risks inherent in cycling on public roads;
(d) undertakes to comply with the applicable road legislation and the organizer’s instructions;
(e) releases the organizers, volunteers, partners, and sponsors from any liability for accidents, injuries, illness, losses, or damages, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Refusal to sign the Declaration of Assumption of Risk or the impossibility of signing it shall result in the prohibition from taking the start, without the right to a refund of the participation fee.
The Declaration of Assumption of Risk is drafted in Romanian and English and is signed by hand by each participant.
Art. 20 (Update)
The organizer reserves the right to amend these Regulations or to decide to introduce new rules if necessary. The organizer may change the conditions under which the event is conducted.
As soon as possible, the organizer shall inform participants of any amendment or decision taken that would affect the conduct of the event, through the press, radio, and the internet, at least 3 days before the date of the event. Also, at the event venue, the amendments shall be publicly announced (orally or by notices).
